7 March, 2021

The Deyata Eliya program to provide electricity to rural households was launched under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday to mark the Gama Samaga Pilisandara program held in the Weragala village, Giribawa. Electricity connections are provided free under the Deyata Eliya program to Samurdhi beneficiary families and other low-income families who are in the Samurdhi priority list. Concessionary credit facilities will be provided through Samurdhi Banks for house wiring. The Government hopes to provide electricity to all identified houses before the end of this year. Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando, Power Ministry Secretary Wasantha Perera, CEB Chairman Vijitha Herath and Samurdhi Director General Bandula Thilakasiri were also present.
