Sri Lanka all rounder Thisara Perera became the ninth player to hit six sixes in a single over when he achieved the feat at the SLC Major Clubs tournament last Sunday (March 28).

The 31 year old left hander slammed Dilhan Cooray for six sixes in the 41st over of a truncated game as the part-time off spinner conceded 73 runs in his four overs and was clobbered for nine sixes in total.

Perera reached his half-century in 13-balls, becoming the second-fastest Sri Lankan to score a fifty .

The record for the fastest fifty by a Sri Lankan is currently held by Kaushalya Weeraratne who smashed a 12-ball fifty for Ragama Cricket Club against Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club in November in 2005.

South African Herschelle Gibbs, India’s Yuvraj Singh and West Indies batsman Kieron Pollard are the only three players to achieve this feat in international cricket.

The others to have hit six sixes in domestic cricket are Gary Sobers (West Indies) for Nottinghamshire against Glamorgan in 1968, Ravi Shastri while playing for Bombay in the Ranji Trophy in 1985, Ross Whiteley for Worcestershire Rapids against Yorkshire Vikings in the T20 big bash in 2017, Afghanistan’s Haztratullah Zazai in a Premier League match and New Zealander Leo Carter in 2020 playing for Canterbury Kings against Northern Knights.
