Netflix orders ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3 and 4

18 April, 2021

Lady Whistledown stans, unite: Netflix renewed Bridgerton for season 3 and 4, and we still have season 2 on the horizon. And that may not be all.

Variety reported that Netflix is fully committed to the hit Shondaland series. ‘‘Bridgerton’ swept us off our feet,’ Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s VP of global TV, said in a statement. “The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the ‘Bridgerton’ business for a long time to come.”

If the seasons follow the order of the Julia Quinn books, that means we can next look forward to Benedict and Sophie’s story, and then Colin and Penelope’s. Season 2 is already set to follow Anthony Bridgerton and his new love interest Kate Sharma (played by Simone Ashley). The show also recently added four other new cast members, Charithra Chandran, Shelley Conn, Calam Lynch, and Rupert Young. So even though season 1 star Regé-Jean Page won’t be returning to Bridgerton (as of now), rest assured there will be plenty to get excited about in future seasons.

“From the first time I read Julia Quinn’s delicious ‘Bridgerton’ series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a viewing audience,” Shonda Rhimes shared in a statement to Variety. “But the evolution of this adaptation would not be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team. This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of ‘Bridgerton’ to a worldwide audience.”
