The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) citing the highest number of vaccines administered per day, said that the vaccination program can be completed within a short time through the State hospital network.

GMOA Secretary said 176,000 vaccines were administered to people in the country on Wednesday and 125,000 of them were administered to the people in the Western Province giving priority to those over 60.

Dr. Fernando told the media in Colombo that vaccines can be administered quickly following the priority order introduced by the GMOA and can be completed within a short time.

“It was pathetic to see that some State hospital administrations had failed to launch the program on the first day. The doctors have found out that some trade unionists on strike, locked up the vaccines preventing access, to sabotage the vaccination program,” he said.

The GMOA thanked all those who supported the vaccination program including MOHs.

“The GMOA will push forward aiming at the completion of the vaccination program soon with the stocks of vaccines arriving this month, the next and in September. Some 13 million vaccines will reach Sri Lanka by the end of September,” he said.
