18 July, 2021

New Zealand's high commissioner designate to Sri Lanka Michael Appleton (left) is presented with the Elephant jersey of the Sri Lanka rugby team when he paid a courtesy call on Rizly Illyas who heads the sport's administration in the country early this week. Illyas spelt out Sri Lanka's plans for enhancing the identity of the Sri Lanka team at a meeting with Appleton who showed keen interest hailing from the country that possess the world's best All Blacks team. History records that a team from New Zealand visited Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) to play a match more than a century ago against British nationals in the island on their way to England. A former All Blacks player Jeff Matheson coached Sri Lanka to be the third best in Asia in the early 1990s
