The Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus can remain in small air-conditioned cubicles or rooms for up to 16 hours while the virus can be in an open big room without air-conditioning for about five minutes. Therefore, it is important to keep all doors and windoors of cubicles and rooms open for proper ventilation, a physician of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka said.

Dr. Upul Dissanayake told the media at the Health Promotion Bureau (HPB) in Colombo yesterday, that cubicles and rooms with polythene reduces the air flow and the virus can remain in the cubicles and rooms for long periods because there is no proper air flow due to the polythene covers. These days a large number of offices and shops use polythene to cover cubicles and rooms which reduces the air flow instead of increasing it.

Dr. Dissanayake said that the best ventilation available is the beach and there is no need to wear a mask on the beach but these days it is appropriate to wear a mask on the beach. People should not try various things mentioned on social media to check their lung capacity.

Covid-19 positive patients who are under home care can drink anything other than alcohol and the quantity should be 2,500 ml. They can drink water, soup, fruit juice and eat porridge. They should sleep more on their tummy to increase the oxygen intake and take Paracetamol only if they have fever. No other medication is effective for Covid-19, he said.
