Victoria Monét, Tierra Whack, CNCO, and more best new music

15 August, 2021

Just six months after welcoming her first child, Victoria Monét has blessed us with “Coastin,’” a feel-good, ultra-grown, sexy summer track.

The new mom appears to be moving full speed ahead, as she has already mentioned plans to release a new project and begin touring in 2022. “I really want to tour at the beginning of 2022. I don't have locked in dates, but that's the plan, so that'll be my first tour of my own,” Victoria revealed in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I put out a whole project and I wasn't able to tour it because of the pandemic, so I'm just excited to finally put part two of Jaguar out and just tour the whole thing.

Victoria Monét, “Coastin’”

Victoria Monét is back with the perfect tune for the summer functions. The smooth, mid-tempo track, which samples “All Night Long” by The Mary Jane Girls, is ultra-flirty and has a ‘70s funk vibe to it. “If sunshine and a good time (and maybe a lil’ drank) were a song, it would be "Coastin!’” exclaims Victoria in a press statement. “It’s made for people with that good, chill energy and the bassline instantly puts you in a certain feel!”

“Coastin’” is produced by the Stereotypes and is said to be a love letter of sorts to Victoria’s home state of California. Further, it’s been dubbed an anthem for the reopening of the country.

Yung Bae ft. Sam Fischer, Pink Sweat$, ‘Silver and Gold’

As the Tokyo Olympics come to a close, we can still enjoy some Olympic-themed music. Musician Yung Bae was inspired by the games for his newest track with Sam Fischer and Pink Sweat$, “Silver and Gold.” The song is anthemic, touting a celebratory horn section and soaring vocals as they sing about going after what you want but being okay when things don't turn out well at first. “Ain’t no L’s, it’s all just lessons, let it go,” the lyrics go. “Ain’t no stressing, it’s just blessings.”

Tierra Whack, ‘Walk the Beat’

Tierra Whack is runway-ready with fashion-forward track, ‘Walk the Beat’. The up-tempo single is one of several stand-alone tracks the Grammy-nominated lyricist has dropped following the release of her debut album, Whack World. We imagine that it will be a favorite at fashion shows and on retail playlists.

CNCO, ‘Toa La Noche’

CNCO just released the visuals for ‘Toa La Noche’, their first single since Joel Pimentel exited the group last spring. The newly-minted quartet says that the single represents their new sound since the group experienced some restructuring. ‘Toa La Noche’ was composed by CNCO along with reggaeton star Winsin and producers Christian Linares, Jose Cotto, Jean Rodriguez and Los Legendarios in Puerto Rico at Winsin’s La Base Studios.

Jorja Smith, ‘All of This’

Jorja Smith sings of a love gone awry in her latest single, ‘All of This’. “It’s all about someone who doesn't deserve you and thinking, ‘Wow, you really had all of me once, ew,'” explains Jorja in a press statement. The somber track is produced by DJ Guilty Beatz and is Amapiano-inspired. The origins of “All of This” date back to 2019, when Jorja and Guilty collaborated at a writing camp in Jamaica. It later underwent an Amapiano-style transformation in 2020, which is when they completed the song with some assistance from Guilty’s girlfriend, Abby. “He’s so wonderful to work with and when we initially started the song, it was more a fall to the floor type beat.

Jordy, ‘Till It Hurts’

Jordy is hopelessly in love in his latest single, ‘Till It Hurts’. The visuals, which take place on a high school campus, are the perfect fit for the sweet, poppy song, which speaks of pure, unconditional love. “I think we all feel like we’re hard to love sometimes. Whether it’s our anxieties or bad habits or baggage from past relationships, there are moments where we all ask ourselves if we’re even worthy of love in the first place,” Jordy explains in a press statement. “It’s me owning all of my flaws and insecurities while also recognizing my capacity and ability to love someone else unconditionally. Even if it hurts.”
