Palitha Bandara finishes fifth

Sri Lanka’s Palitha Bandara had to be satisfied with the fifth place from among nine competitors with a distance of 13.40m at the Paralympic Shot Put F- 63 final held at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium yesterday .

Bandara the 28 year old soldier who was also the last competitor of the nine member Sri Lanka team at this Tokyo Games did his best at the fourth attempt while he covered 12.67m, 13.08m and 13.30m distances at his first, second and third attempts.

However at his fifth and sixth attempts he couldn’t reach his best with 13.30m and 12.26m.

Aled Davies of Great Britain who is also the world record holder of this event finished with 15.33m and won the gold medal while Sajad Mohammadin of Iran (14.88m) and Kuwait’s Faizal Sorour (14.13m ) were placed second and third respectively.
