Sri Lanka is likely to retain the same team that lost the first T20 against South Africa on Friday for today’s second match.

A target of 164 never looked out of reach for Sri Lanka in the first match, but without a decent start on a pitch that offered turn for the slow bowlers, there was no way South Africa could have failed to defend their score.

Not only did Sri Lanka lose opener Avishka Fernando who failed to beat a throw from Nortje at the bowler’s end for just 11 runs, but also hit more disaster when Bhanuka Rajapakse was dismissed for his third successive duck to add to scores of 0 and 0 he made in the first two ODIs.

Prospects of a salvage operation never looked a possibility when Charith Asalanka could only scratch his way to making just six runs off 19 balls.

Recalled Dinesh Chandimal eventually had no one at the other end to do anything worthwhile as he remained unbeaten on 66 from 54 balls with five fours and two sixes with Sri Lanka reaching just 135 for 6 in the 20 overs.

Earlier the South Africans deciding to bat first after winning the toss, phased out their innings well with openers Quinton de Kock (36) and Reza Hendricks (38) setting the course followed by Aiden Markram (48) and David Miller (26) ensuring they reach 163 for 5 in the 20 overs.
