Sri Lanka pick 20 for international weightlifting

A 20-member contingent of weightlifters were selected by the Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation (SLWF) in preparation for forthcoming events like the Commonwealth Championships and IWF World Championships to be held from December 7 to 17 in Uzbekistan.

The names of the contingent comprising ten men and ten women have been sent to the Ministry of Sports for approval.

The Commonwealth Championship was earlier scheduled to be held in Singapore in October but was moved to Uzbekistan due to Covid-19 issues.

The SLWF said its main target was the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham, England in 2022.

The squad:

Men: Dilanka Kumara, Chathuranga Lakmal, Thilanka Ranasinghe, Indika Dissanayake, Sudesh Peiris, Chinthaka Vidanage, Shanaka Madushanka, Saman Abeywickrama, Ushan Charuka and Asitha Deshapriya. Reserve: Ruchira Ranjith.

Women: Srimali Samarakoon, Hansani Gomes, Chamari Warnakulasuriya, Mohideen Umeira, N.S. Rajapakse, Arshika Vijayabaskar, D.T. Gurugama, D.N. Sanjana, Chathurika Priyanthi and B.J. Haputhenna.
