Sugath Ratnayake in China literary fame

Sugath Ratnayake, Lecturer, Department of Sinhala Studies, School of Foreign Languages, Yunnan University, China, has won second place in the International storytelling Contest “China and Me, Five Years from Now”.

This contest, hosted jointly by China Daily and the Bank of China and awards ceremony was held in Beijing, China on Monday (27) via video.

Sugath has won the award out of 138 entries submitted by international students and foreign experts from more than 30 countries and regions.

Sugath Ratnayake, a foreign expert representing Yunnan University, participated in the contest.

The winners of the competition are selected by a team of experts, including university professors.

The first 10 prizes, 20 second prizes and 30 third prizes were presented at the awards ceremony and more than 200 people participated in the event in person or participated via video.

Sugath Ratnayake is a former consultant to the Sinhala Service of the

Chinese Media Group (CMG) in Beijing. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts and a Master of Philosophy from the University of Kelaniya and is currently the Sri Lankan Lecturer in the Department of Sinhala Studies at the School of Foreign Languages, Yunnan University, China.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, China Daily Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Zhou Shuchun said that the competition was organised with the aim of presenting a true, multi dimensional and panoramic view of China to the outside world.

Addressing the awards ceremony via video, Liu Lian’ge, President of the Bank of China, said that through the participants stories we can see their love for China and great hopes for the future.

The ceremony also marked the launching of China Daily’s “Study China” information service platform, which features the website study china.chinadaily.com.cn and sub sites for individual universities.

This website provides information about China, Chinese universities, scholarships, learning Chinese and services for international students ranging from admissions and visas to living, studying and working in China.
