17 October, 2021

Wearing face masks should be 100 percent in the country at present and even a fully vaccinated person can get infected with Covid-19 and spread the disease to others. There is a possibility for fully vaccinated people to die from Covid-19 if he/she does not seek medical treatment early, Health Promotion Bureau (HPB) Director Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa said.

He told a press briefing at the HPB in Colombo on Friday that the vaccine only increases the immunity against Covid-19. Therefore, it is essential to follow all health guidelines all the time and seek medical treatment early if you get infected with Covid-19.

Health Services Deputy Director General Dr. Hemantha Herath said that all public transport should run with open doors and windows to decrease the possibility of spreading Covid-19 through them. People should put up with the temporary discomfort without air-conditioning.

Even a gathering of 50 or 60 people is adequate to create a new Covid-19 cluster and spread it all over. This happened in the past one and a half years.

He said that the vaccination against Covid-19 alone cannot control the disease and public support is essential to control it. No health guideline can be relaxed when studying the current situation. All should follow all health guidelines all the time. Consultant Epidemiologist of the Epidemiology Unit Dr. Deepa Gamage told the electronic media on Saturday that even if one fully vaccinated employee became Covid-19 positive, all the other employees in the entire section, unit, Department should be quarantined for 14 days. Therefore, it is the sole responsibility of all fully vaccinated employees to protect their colleagues from Covid-19 by staying at home if they feel not well and follow all health guidelines while in good health and working.
