England inflicted a most humiliating defeat on the West Indies who were shot out for just 55 runs in 14.2 overs in their group A match of the T20 World Cup in Dubai last night.

With England captain Eoin Morgan making the right choice to bowl first after winning the toss, the West Indies fell like nine pins as Chris Woakes got rid of opener Evin Lewis for 6 in the second over followed by spinner Moen Ali who opened the bowling bagging Lendl Simmons for 3.

Shimron Hetmyer, Dwayne Bravo, Nicholas Pooran and Keiron Pollard could not even reach double figures while Andre Russel was out without scoring.

Chris Gayle was the only batter to reach double figures with 13 while spinner Adhil Rashid savoured the pleasure of taking four wickets for just two runs in 2.2 overs.

England had no difficulty whatsoever in reaching the simplest of targets which they did when Jason Roy opened the batting with Jos Buttler who remained unbeaten on 24 in 8.2 overs.

Roy made 11, Jonny Bairstow 9, Moen Ali 3 and Liam Livingstone 1 before skipper Eoin Morgan joined Buttler to see them through.

Scores:

West Indies 55 in 14.2 overs (Chris Gayle 13, Tymal Mills 2 for 17, Moen Ali 2 for 17, Adhil Rashid 4 for 2)

England 56 for 4 in 8.2 overs (Jos Buttler 24 not out, Akeal Hosein 2 for 24)
