31 October, 2021

Police put on a magnificent show on their home turf thrashing Havelocks 31-0 in a pool B clash on the opening day of the Warriors Rugby Sevens tournament at Police Park yesterday.

A total of 12 matches were worked off in the preliminary round with the participation of ten teams in the first inter-club rugby tournament held in the country since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

The blue-jerseyed cops narrowly edged out Army ‘Colts’ 17-15 but got into top gear when they romped past Havelocks scoring five unanswered tries.

Havelocks came into the final game after an impressive 31-0 win over Army ‘Colts’ with Randutha Warnapura touching down twice while Mithun Hapugoda scored a hat-trick of tries. But they had no answer to the Police blitzkrieg.

Army ‘A’ registered the biggest win of the day 33-0 against Air Force ‘B’ as Ashan Bandara and Tharindu Hettiarachchi scored two tries each.
