The biggest mistake people make is to live life in fear of social judgement – Nelum

31 October, 2021

Reflecting on simple and happy times of fun and adventure. The 70s, 80s and 90s, eras of carefree, free love and the best adventures and travels that weren’t captured in pictures but a memory.

This week Youth Life speaks to former child artist, model, actress, editor of Brides of Sri Lanka Magazine and one of the most successful entrepreneurs Nelum Haththella.

We go down memory lane, look back at life, lessons and experiences. This is what she says to the younger generation

Q: What do you want to tell your younger self?

A: Make sure people won’t take advantage of your kindness, trust-less and stop feeling sorry for people.

Q: Have regrets?

A: None! The biggest mistake people make is to live life in fear of social judgement. I’ve lived my adult life unapologetically and I’ve lived it well.

Q: The best times of your life?

A: Right now! I keep making life better every day – making it less complicated, avoiding or removing negative people, prioritising everything that matters, and living each day like it is my last!

Q:What does your generation have that this generation doesn’t?

A: Ethics, Respect and Common Sense!

Q: What does this generation have that your generation didn’t have?

A: Dependency on Google.

Q: Your advice to the current generation?

A: Never fear to be who you are – society is more accepting than ever before. Learn to fix or mend, not replace. Read not just watch. There’s not that much time ahead of you, for you to lose. So, start envisioning your future, equip yourself with whatever you need to get there, prepare yourself to be resilient and overcome all the challenges you may face. And remember, no matter how big you are, if you are not humane, you are nothing.
