Football coaches to be lectured on science

Football coaches in Sri Lanka will be lectured on the subject of Sports Science by Dr Jayantha Dassanayake, one of the leading international experts in the subject who will conduct the sixth session of the Online Football Coaching Course today.

The programme initiated by Mahinda Galagedara, head coach of Police Sports Club and founder of MG Academy, aims to introduce the basics Sports Science principles for football coaches in Sri Lanka.

Renown Football Academy is the main sponsor of this programme. Their founder, Robert Peiris and the president Sritharan Peiris expect to identify undiscovered football talents in Sri Lanka and the purpose of supporting this programme is to develop a network of coaches.

This week’s session by Dr Dassanayake, a lecturer at School of Biomedicine, Victoria University in Australia, is on Talent Identification, Test and Measurements in Sports commences at 3.30 pm. The eight-week training session is being conducted through Zoom technology so that any football coach in Sri Lanka will be able to follow it. The course is completely free and after every session prizes are awarded to participants who correctly answer the questions from the lectures.

The coaching programme is conducted in collaboration with the Department of Sports Development, Ministry of Youth and Sports. Those who successfully follow the programme will be awarded a certificate by the Ministry of Sports.

The course is organized in collaboration with the Department of Sports Development, Ministry of Youth and Sports and is fully supported by Amal Edirisooriya, Director General, Department of Sports Development and Thilak Alponsu, Assistant Director of Sports, Ministry of Sports.
