The Sri Lanka basketball team with several new recruits finished runners up at the South Asian basketball championship (SABA) in Dhaka early this week after losing only to the powerhouse India.

The young players who stood out were Dasun Nilantha, Nimesh Fernando and Rukshan Atapattu who are reported to have played brilliantly throughout the campaign with team captain Clinton Stallone nearly unstoppable in both attack and defense and displaying his leadership skills as well. “This helped to improve the performance of the team and more importantly develop camaraderie among the players,” said a team official.

Sri Lanka basketball president Aelian Gunawardene travelled with the team to Dhaka as Chef de Mission and the team was sponsored by Velona, Vaaj Group and MAS. Most of the players are employed in private banks and the Army and Navy.
