Wellawatte Nithyakalyani honours healthcare heroes

The ‘Deepavali Upahara’ ceremony organised by Wellawatte Nithyakalyani Jewellery, together with the Rotary Colombo East was held on Deepavali Day at the Nithyakalyani premises.

The ceremony was held to pay tribute to some of the heroes who bolstered the wellbeing of the country during this pandemic. Healthcare heroes such as the Medical Officer of Health, Wellawatta Dr. Shree Prathapan and his team, Former OIC of Wellawatta Police Kapila Priyanka Wijemanne and many hygiene related workers who ensured that the city was clean were honoured at this ceremony.

Among the attendees were CEO of Wellawatta Nithyakalyani Jewellery and the current President of Rotary Colombo East A. P. Jayarajah, Managing Partners P. Sivakumar and Dhivakar Balasubramaniam, Rotarian Rajendra Theagarajah, Secretary of Rotary Colombo East,. Saifu Adamally, Clean Tech team responsible for the Wellawatta area, OIC of Community Police Unit of Wellawatte SI Y. N. Heshan, other  police officers and the team from Wellawatta Nithyakalyani Jewellery.

A. P. Jayarajah paid tribute to these healthcare heroes who had been on the frontline during Covid-19 to ensure health and hygiene in Wellawatte.

“Your service is more valuable than gold,” he said. The company engages in Wellawatta Nithyakalyani Jewellery annually engages in several social welfare activities such as blood donation, beach cleaning, tree maintenance, development of schools and places of worship and that he hopes to carry out a number of similar social service projects in the future in association with the Rotary Colombo East,  said P. Sivakumar.
