Cricket fans in Sri Lanka are up in arms after being told that only those who have been vaccinated against Covid 19 will be allowed to witness the home Test series against the West Indies at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.

Some of the cricket followers told the Sunday Observer that preventing them from entering the venue because they are not vaccinated amounts to what they called a violation of civil liberties while others said it was a form of discrimination.

“Only those who are fully vaccinated against the Covid-19 infection as per the current vaccination protocols will be permitted entry to witness the match. Spectators should carry the proof of vaccination (either the card or in digital form) and should have completed the second vaccination at least 14 days prior to entering the ground,” SLC said in its public media statement.

Meanwhile SLC continued with its unjustified decision to impose conditions on media personnel at Sri Lanka’s matches that resulted in just two media personnel present in the Press Box that has a hundred seating capacity during the first Test against the West Indies at the same venue.

The second Test between the West Indies and Sri Lanka starts on Monday with Sri Lanka already one up in the two-match series that is part of the ICC World Test Championship.

As many as 12 reporters from Sri Lanka covered the recent T20 World Cup in the UAE.
