Qamar Khan, the chief executive of London-based Hamro Foundation has pocketed the LPL Dambulla franchise team that will be known as the Dambulla Giants for the tournament that starts on December 5.
Khan is the Founder and Trustee of the Hamro Foundation that mentors business and sports personalities.
“I have always been a supporter of cricket, from grass-root teams in my local area to following the game on the international stage. As I stopped playing cricket I wanted to continue supporting the game and still be involved in the sport.
“An opportunity arose for me to purchase the Dambulla franchise and support the T20 league in Sri Lanka, a country I fell in love with during my first visit in 2010,” said Khan.
“I am excited to see how the LPL grows going forward and what the future will hold for Sri Lankan cricket. The quality of cricket displayed by Sri Lanka at the T20 World Cup, has already demonstrated the potential this country has to offer.”
The Dambulla Giants will be captained by Dasun Shanaka who will have players in the mould of Niroshan Dickwella, Chamika Karunaratne, Nuwan Pradeep, Janith Liyanage and Ramesh Mendis with overseas players in the mould of South Africans Imran Thahir and Rilee Rossouw lined up.
