MCA cricket commences with 20 teams

12 December, 2021

The Mercantile Cricket Association’s (MCA) E Division 30-over Championship for the DPGC Challenge Trophy commenced last week sponsored by David Peiris Group for the 19th year running with 20 companies contesting.

This Championship was played as a 25-over event prior to this year where two matches were played on a single ground but due the prevailing Covidi-19 restrictions the MCA had to do away with it and hope to get back to the previous schedules under normalcy.

The twenty teams play in three groups with 57 matches on a league basis first round before making their way to the second round. The league round to be played on weekends will come to an end with the quarter finals set for January 29 and February 5, 2022.

The semi-finals and final is to take place on February 13 at the MCA ground.

The above details were disclosed to the media at a Press briefing held at the MCA to present the sponsorship where the Director and Chief Operating Officer of DPMC Nalaka Madugalle said they too have an obligation to foster sports as they employ several sportsmen and women.

“Our group takes a keen interest in sports and it has become a must for us to be partners whenever it is necessary by becoming a sponsor. In the future too our Group will play a major role sponsoring sporting events,” said Madugalle.

Teams participating teams are: Group ‘A’ - Commercial Leasing, SLT-Mobitel, Ceylinco Insurance, DH International Group, Fairfirst Insurance and Amana Takaful. Group ‘B’ - LOLC Holdings, Hirdaramani Group, Stafford Motor Company, Commercial Credit, Trelleborg Lanka, Union Assurance and Expo Lanka.
