Sri Lanka’s spin bowling discard Jeffrey Vandersay said his spiritual inclination gave him the strength to persevere with his favourite passion to make a comeback into contention.

The 31-year old Vandersay opened his heart out after he grabbed six wickets, which is extremely rare in T20 cricket, to lead his Colombo Stars team to victory over the Kandy Warriors and book a place in the play-offs of the LPL at the Premadasa Stadium on Friday.

“I am very satisfied with my bowling skills and to showcase my talents once again. Initially I was not in the players’ draft and it’s a satisfying moment. “I also went through some tough situations in life and God gave me the strength to get through it,” said Vandersay who finished with figures of 6 for 24 from his four overs that included the scalps of the dangerous duo of Charith Asalanka (14) and Kennar Lewis (21) as the Kandy Warriors made 124 in reply to 182 made by the Colombo Stars.

Vandersay represented Sri Lanka in ten T20 Internationals taking just six wickets before he was discarded after playing his last match against the West Indies in 2019.

A product of Wesley College, he made his debut against New Zealand in Christchurch in 2015.
