Over 400 to contest Junior Open Squash

Chocolate brand Ritzbury has once again partnered with Sri Lanka Squash (SLS) to organise the 32nd Ritzbury Junior National Squash Championship scheduled to take place from December 26 to 31 at the SSC courts in Colombo.

Showcasing the company’s resolute commitment in developing and promoting squash nationwide, Riztbury has continuously partnered the Championship for 13 consecutive years.

Nilupul de Silva, General Manager Marketing, CBL Foods International said: “We support many sports such as athletics, swimming and rugby. We have cultivated a special relationship in promoting squash for over a decade and are pleased at the pace the sport has progressed.

“Several talented players have now emerged from various zones in the country. Our future goal is to ensure squash is promoted district-wise enabling more participation from players.”

Recognised as a major event in the sport’s annual calendar, over 400 players representing schools including the top ranked junior players are expected to participate in this championship.

This year’s tournament will feature boys and girls in age groups of Under 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 in addition to Novices events for Under 11, 15 and 19 with the aim of attracting new entrants to the game.

The final of the Under-19 is scheduled to take place on January 2, 2022.

Expressing his views on this year’s Championship, Suren Kohombange, president of Sri Lanka Squash said: “Sri Lanka squash believes that the young squash players have immensely benefited by Ritzbury’s commitment to squash and Sri Lanka Squash is grateful to the management and team at Ritzbury for supporting our young athletes by once again coming forward to sponsor the 32nd Junior Nationals for the 13th consecutive time. We do plan to have a successful tournament with a large number of young players participating this time”.
