The Feast of Epiphany

2 January, 2022

The Feast of the Epiphany, in other words; the ‘Three Kings Day’, is celebrated to mark when the Wise Men also known as the ‘Magi’ visited Jesus when he was two years old.

It is believed that the Feast of Epiphany was celebrated 12 days after Christmas which is on January 6.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem during the time of King Herod and the Wise Men asked King Herod where the Saviour of the World was born. They said,that they had seen His Star and they wanted to go to Bethlehem and worship Him.

King Herod told them to find the Child and when they find Him, they should tell him.

The Wise Men saw the Child and they worshipped him.

They gave him presents of gold, frankincense and myrrh. They were warned in a dream not to go back to King Herod.

So, they went back to their own country using a different route. The wise men gave Jesus Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh.

However, we can give Jesus our heart because that is the best present, we can give him.

We three kings

We three kings of Orient are;
Bearing gifts we traverse afar,
Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder star.

Refrain:
O star of wonder, star of light,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect light.
Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again,
King forever, ceasing never,
Over us all to reign.
Refrain
Frankincense to offer have I;
Incense owns a Deity nigh;
Prayer and praising, voices raising,
Worshipping God on high.
Refrain
Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes a life of gathering gloom;
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
Sealed in the stone cold tomb.
Refrain
Glorious now behold Him arise;
King and God and sacrifice;
Alleluia, Alleluia,
Sounds through the earth and skies.
