Taylor now 37, said it was a privilege to have played for New Zealand since 2006.

“It’s been an amazing journey and I feel incredibly fortunate to have represented my country for as long as I have,” he said.

“It’s been such a privilege to play with and against some of the greats of the game and to have created so many memories and friendships along the way. But all good things must come to an end and the timing feels right for me.”

Taylor retires as New Zealand’s highest Test runs scorer with 7,584 runs and the player with the highest runs in ODIs with 8,581 to his credit.

He made 21 ODI hundreds and scored the most number of hundreds for a Kiwi in all formats which stands at 40 and holds the record for the highest Test score made by a rival batsman in Australia which is 290 at Perth in 2015.
