Australia’s pace duo of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc destroyed England in their first innings for a total of 188 to take a 115-run lead that they increased to 152 with seven second innings wickets in hand on the second day of the fifth and final Ashes cricket Test in Hobart yesterday.

Cummins plucked four scalps while Starc picked up three wickets as none of the England batters were able to dig in with the highest individual score of 36 made by Chris Woakes.

Australia have already wrapped up the series 3-0 with the fourth match ending in a draw in Sydney last week.

A noteworthy feature in the match was Australian opener David Warner dismissed without scoring in both innings.

England at one stage took hold of the match when they had the Aussies reeling at 12 for 3 and then again at 83 for 4 before Travis Head (101) and Cameron Green (74) put on 121 runs for the fifth wicket.

Scores:

Australia 303 (Travis Head 101, Cameron Green 74, Stuart Broad 3 for 59, Mark Wood 3 for 115) and 37 for 3

England 188 (Joe Root 34, Chris Woakes 36, Mitchell Starc 3 for 53, Pat Cummins 4 for 45)
