The free vaccination against Covid-19 is a gift by the Government to the people of the country, Consultant on Critical Care Medicine, National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL), Dr. Anthony Mendis said.
He told a press briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau in Colombo on Friday that the arrival of another Covid-19 wave is visible and vaccination with all three doses minimises the number of deaths and ICU admissions of Covid-19 patients. Therefore, it is important for all eligible people to obtain all three doses, especially the booster dose.
Dr. Mendis said that even after receiving all three doses of the vaccine people should strictly follow all health guidelines, all the time, to mitigate the spread of the disease.
It is now spreading among fully vaccinated people and, therefore, the viral load in the community is low. If the number of Covid-19 patients increases in the community, ICU admissions will increase and there will be a dearth of resources similar to the situation that arose in the past.
