Havelock Sports Club outplayed Navy SC 21-5 in their opening match of the Sri Lanka Rugby ‘A’ division inter club League at Havelock Park yesterday.
The home side led 21-0 at half time after scoring three converted tries against the run of play.
Winger Ramesh Fernando breached the Navy defence with a brace which was converted by fly half Sandesh Jayawickrema followed by winger Asitha Punchihewa adding a third try for the hosts following a grubber from skipper Mithun Hapugoda on the far left. Jayawickrema made another superb touchline conversion to give Havelocks a 21-0 lead.
Navy exploited the numbers advantage after Havelocks had their lock forwards sent to the sin-bin in the second half with hooker Amith Gunasinghe going over for an unconverted try after a rolling maul.
