The Royal Turf Club in Nuwara Eliya reached out to hundreds of less privileged children who benefitted with school books, bags, stationery, clothes, toys and other gifts at a function branded RTC Christmas with the Kids which marked a day long programme that took in their family elders as well at their Racecourse.

The children also took part in various games and were rewarded with gifts.

The president of the RTC Panduka Keerthinanda, its secretary Ryota Hakariya and treasurer Nisitha Rupasinghe presided over the project that was heralded by Santa Claus who arrived on horseback to the delight of the children who also had a meal to remember.

Horse racing enthusiasts graced the occasion along with generous contributors who ensured the RTC also had an obligation towards humanitarian projects to lend a hand to the needy.

“The pandemic and adverse weather conditions in Nuwara Eliya impacted badly on many families and only made it hard for most of them to celebrate Christmas. To light up and be joyful, the Royal Turf Club organised this event to celebrate Christmas with these beloved children. Christmas is more meaningful when we share our kindness generously, especially with these families in hardship,” said Keerthinanda.

An organising committee official said the RTC adhered to health guidelines with all participants equipped with masks.
