The 20th edition of the DSI Super Sports Schools Volleyball Championship organized by Sri Lanka Volleyball is to get underway from March 26 to July 3 after a lapse of two years.

The Championship is open for boys and girls in the age categories of under-13, 15,17 and 19.

The under-19 group will play for the newly introduced AVI Trophy as this is considered as the selection class for under-19 and under 23 national pools.

The first stage of the championship will get off the ground at district level for all age groups before the commencement of the national level. District level matches are to be organized by Zonal Education Offices and Divisional Secretariat Office and they are given the option to specify dates for these matches.

Winner and runner up at district level will qualify for the national Championship which is the second round. The first stage is to be completed before May 8 and the national level stage is set to get started on June 15 and end on June 21.

Qualifiers for the national championship will travel to play these finals at the Volleyball House in Galle on July 2 and 3 where the awards ceremony too is to take place. Thusitha Rajapakse the Managing Director of the sponsor D Samson Industries presented the sponsorship to the president of SLV Kanchana Jayarane at a Press briefing on Wednesday.

“Our association with the championship during the past two decades has brought in accolades for the sport as well as for the country at large. I am proud to mention that the national team that won the Asia Volleyball Championship had a complete set of players who came to the limelight through this championship.

“This amply proves that our efforts in promoting volleyball have brought immense value to the sport while also helping the Volleyball Federation to find the best talent available from grass root level to give them an equal opportunity to enter the arena with great hopes,” said Rajapaksa.
