One person can ruin Covid-19 control - Dr. Hemantha Herath

27 February, 2022

One person can turn the Covid-19 controlled situation upside down and, therefore, people should follow all basic health guidelines strictly, all the time, Deputy Director General Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said. He told a press briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau in Colombo on Friday that people can celebrate the forthcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year as usual, if the current control of Covid-19 prevails. There is another month to control it better.

Dr. Herath said that if people follow the health guidelines, at all times, it will improve, enabling people to celebrate the New Year. Therefore, it is essential for people to adhere to health guidelines at all times.

At present, antigen tests are conducted when people are admitted to hospitals as antigen tests are considered random tests because they are not Covid-19 patients, suspected patients or contacts of such patients.

The power cuts did not affect the quality of vaccines because Sri Lanka had power supply facilities to store vaccines to ensure the quality of vaccines under the National Immunisation Program, he added.
