Beach volleyball players to undergo training from Monday

Sri Lanka’s beach volleyball players both men and women who made history two weeks ago by qualifying to compete at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games will commence their training in preparation for the event from Monday.

The men’s duo of Ashen Rashmika and Malintha Yapa will be partnered by more players at the training session.

Four players who are selected to join the two players are Tyronne Jaytilleke, Nalin Perera, Anjana Sandeepana and Sandun Madhushanka.

The two women Deepika Bandara and C. Weerasinghe who have also done well will undergo training along with four more players added to the pool. The players included for training are Denesha Prasadini, Hansani Malsha, Shehani Asanga and Sulochana Jayawardena.

All of them will undergo training till April 30 at the Beach Park in Negombo where international beach volleyball encounters were played during the past two months.

The foreign coach from Finland, Shelwin Randow, will be in charge of the training program until the final selections are made.

President of the Sri Lanka Beach Volleyball Association C. Ratnamudali has been appointed as the manager for both pools during their training period. Once the training sessions end only two players from each category will be selected to present the country at the Birmingham Games. According to the Commonwealth Games rules for Beach Volleyball only two players are allowed to represent a country.
