Volodymyr Zelenskyy - the servant of the people

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as you know, is the president of Ukraine. Born on January 25, 1978 to a Jewish family, Zelenskyy started his life journey as a comedian. You might not know that he has obtained a degree in law from the University of Kyiv, the national economic university.

Acting life

Zelenskyy embarked on his acting journey, proving his inborn skills to all movie fans. When he was 17 years old, he joined one of the local teams competing in the KVN comedy competition team. Later, those who witnessed Zelenskyy’s talents invited him to the united Ukrainian team “Zaporizhia-Kryvyi Rih-Transit” which performed in the KVN’s Major league and won in 1997.

It would be correct to say that his attempts to become a famous actor began to bear fruit. He set up the Kvartal 95 team which went on to become the comedy outfit Kvartal 95.

In 2003, Kvartal 95 started to produce more TV shows for Ukrainian TV channels. In 2008 he acted in the feature film ‘Love in the Big City’. He continued his acting life with the film Office Romance.

In 2014 ‘Love in the Big City-3’ was released. Zelenskyy played the main role in the film ‘8 First Dates’ and in sequels which were produced in 2015 and 2016.

Being the general producer of the TV channel ‘Inter Film’, he had rendered a commendable service to the country’s film industry. It is evident that in August 2014 Zelenskyy raised his voice against the decision taken by the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture to ban Russian artists from Ukraine from 2015. Unexpectedly, Ukraine banned Russian artistes and Zelenskyy’s films. As reported by the Ukrainian media, during the war in Donbas, Zelenskyy’s Kvartal 95 had donated one million hryvnias to the Ukrainian army. As the time passed, most Russian politicians as well as artistes petitioned against the ban on Zelenskyy’s works in Russia.

Speaking of his films, we have to mention that he contributed to most Russian Language productions. ‘I, You, He, She’ was his maiden Ukrainian language film which was screened in December 2018. Moreover, we cannot forget his banned films, most of his films had been banned by the Ukrainian authorities.

However, he spoke out against their decisions. In 2017, The comedy series ‘Svaty’ was banned. Another film titled ‘Love in the Big City’ too was banned in 2018.

Servant of the people

In the movie titled the ‘Servant of the people’ Zelenskyy played the role of the President of Ukraine. Speaking of the plot of the film, we can say that Zelenskyy is a history teacher who wins the presidential election, thanks to a video clip which contains his speech against the corrupt government.

Political journey

Zelenskyy announced his candidacy in 2019. Amazingly, Zelenskyy who had garnered popularity as one of the best actors in Ukraine won the presidential election effortlessly with 73.23 percent of the vote. He had made a promise to end the conflict with Russia.

He made attempts to have a dialogue with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin regarding controversial issues. He wanted to calm the Ukrainian populace and sought support from NATO with the aim of protecting the country. Unexpectedly, President of Russia, Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation and on the morning of February 24, Russian tanks began to roll into Ukraine. Russian armoured vehicles and army troops poured into Ukraine. Even at present, innocent people are dying in vain.
