Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), one of the richest money-making public institutions in the country has decided to dole out a whopping Rs. 718 million in funds to the island’s ailing health sector amid the economic disaster that has hit essential public services.

Half of the money will be channelled to the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Borella and the other half to the National Cancer Hospital in Maharagama.

It was not known when the money will be donated but SLC said they were “extremely happy” to make the contribution.

“Sri Lanka Cricket is extremely happy to make this donation at this moment of need for the country and we will give our fullest support to our nation to overcome these challenging times”, said SLC president Shammi Silva.

A Statement by SLC on Wednesday said the money “will be immediately donated to the respective institutions.

It’s secretary Mohan de Silva said they owed it to followers of the team to support them in the current situtation.

“We feel that as an iconic sporting brand it is our responsibility to come forward to help our people who have been supporting Sri Lanka Cricket and our players unconditionally at all times,” said De Silva
