Vesak

5 June, 2022

Vesak is also known as the Buddha Jayanthi, Buddha Purnima and Buddha Day. This festival is celebrated by Buddhists. It is held in May. This religious festival commemorates the birth of Prince Siduhath, Enlightenment and passing away of the Buddha.

Buddhists go to the temple for meditation and to observe sil. Buddhists make Vesak lanterns and decorate their homes. Some make pandals in homes and temples. Each pandal depicts Jathaka tales.

They hoist Buddhist flags in their homes and temples. On this day, some people release birds and animals that they rear in their homes. In schools and temples they sing Bakthi gee. Some Buddhist devotees provide free food, ice-cream and drinks. These places are called dansals. I think this religious festival paves the way to improve the human values of life.
