Plans are under way to introduce a five-year no pay leave plan for public servants who wish to go abroad for work or any other purpose, Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Dinesh Gunawardena told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

According to Minister Gunawardena, public servants will get back their seniority, grades at the end of the five years with all benefits after completing the no pay leave period.

This will give incentives to public servants to go abroad for employment. Therefore, this program will offer many benefits to public servants, the Minister said.

The Work From Home system has also been made available for public servants since the Covid-19 pandemic and this reduces their burdens and also saves fuel by cutting down unnecessary fuel use, the Minister added.
