The BMICH celebrated World Environment Day by planting a variety of saplings in the premises including Hal plants.
Hal – Vateria Copallifera is endemic to Sri Lanka which is powdered & used to make various authentic Sri Lankan food such as Halapa, Pittu, Thalapa, Roti etc.
World Environment Day is celebrated to spread awareness about protecting and restoring our planet. Being this year’s theme “Only One Earth”, we need to work collectively towards building the comfort of the planet.
“We are delighted to have celebrated the World Environment Day as we continuously practice eco-friendly conceptsbeing an urban forest and weoperate an in-house compost pile using the “Takakura” method to manage the daily garbage collected in the premises and we look forward for organic agriculture projects in the premises as well” said Sunil Dissanayake – Chief Executive, BMICH.Set in a sprawling site, 15 well laid out and spacious car parks that can accommodate 3000 vehicles at a given time, and well-maintained landscaped gardens, BMICH is Sri Lanka’s largest and Asia’s very first purpose-built convention center with ultra-modern facilities.
