Agriculture, Wildlife and Wildlife Resources Conservation Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that nearly 365,000 low-income farmer families will be provided urea fertiliser free for the Maha season.
The World Agricultural and Food Organization has agreed to assist Sri Lanka to overcome the impending food shortage in the country, the Minister told the Sunday Observer.
Moreover, around 14,000 housewives of low-income families too would be offered Rs. 18,000 to help grow green gram during the Maha season this year.
The aim of this program is to uplift the living standard of low-income farmer families while seeking a solution to any possible food shortage in the country, Minister Amaraweera added.
