The Sri Lanka Association for Software Services Companies (SLASSCOM) is  continuing to promote Sri Lanka and its resilience globally through digital marketing and moved several of its training and member activities online, SLASSCOM Chairperson Sandra De Zoyza said.

In terms of the digital economy we are advocating environmental-friendly practices as part of our Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) drive to be the world’s first green IT/BPM destination, she said. SLASSCOM has advocated for and supported our member companies to secure off-grid renewable energy based units for home working, the chamber chief said.

According to her, the national chamber for the knowledge and innovation industry in the country has played a pivotal role in spearheading remote working prior to the global pandemic to enable a flexible and convenient work culture among employees in the IT/BMP industry.

Most of SLASSCOM’s member companies have adopted work from home throughout the pandemic and these have been very well received by our clients worldwide with many commenting that not only were pre-Covid service levels achieved, these were in some instances exceeded, De Zoysa said.

SLASSCOM has been supporting member  companies to create a healthy and feasible remote working culture through webinars and educational moves to  strengthen remote working for employees which comprise data security, employee well being, team building and mental health, she said and added that SLASSCOM’s  entire marquee event, HR Summit focused on and was built around HR aspects in remote working environment, said adding that the chamber has  provided some inputs to labour law police makers on some inclusions to recognise home as a designated place of work – this could be required in the event of insurance claims for instance and also retain accountability,

Allied to this, though not directly related, we have supported and provided input towards Sri Lanka’s data protection act which will strengthen the whole data security framework, De Zoysa said. SLASSCOM is the national chamber for the knowledge and innovation industry in Sri Lanka and acts as the catalyst of growth.

The chamber does this by facilitating trade and business, propagation of education and employment, encouraging research and innovation, and by influencing a national policy framework of value to the industry.

SLASSCOM has over 200 member companies with over 30,000 employees.

SLASSCOM drives the Imagination Economy: Sri Lanka’s Industry of the future, with the potential to become the #1 export revenue earner for Sri Lanka.

The chamber’s vision for 2025 is to generate USD 5.0 billion of revenue, create 200,000 direct jobs and set up 1,000 IT/BPM startups.

SLASSCOM key strategic initiatives are run by nine different forums; marketing, capacity, regional development, entrepreneurship, technology, quality, business process management, innovation, and human resources. Each of these forums is comprised of industry leaders and volunteers, forums drive the key strategic initiatives at SLASSCOM.
