Transport Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena has instructed Ministry officials to cancel the route permits of private buses which obtain fuel continuously from the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) without providing their services.
SLTB officials told a recent meeting that they provide fuel to over 5,000 buses a day and nearly 70 percent of the buses provide services to passengers, while others sell the fuel they get from the SLTB depots to other parties at higher rates.
The Minister has given instructions to officials to stop this immediately and cancel the route permits of such errant bus owners.
