Old Trinitians win as Trinity boxers impress

Old Trinitians Sports Club beat Kandy Zeylanikans Cricket Club by eight runs in the Kandy District Cricket Association Division III Group “C” Tournament match played at Asgiriya while Trinity College took third place in the LV Jayaweera boxing meet in some of the noteworthy events that took place in Kandy.

Kandy Zeylanikans won the toss and invited Old Trinitians Sports Club to bat first, and they went on to score 123 in 41 overs with Janith Warnakula making 53 and M. Malsooriya took 3 for 30.

In reply Kandy Zeylanikan Cricket Club fell for 115 with Lahiiru Viranga making 33 and Malith Ratnayake taking 3 for 41

Kandy Zeylanikans 115 in 40.3 overs (Lahiru Viranga 33, Heshan Gamage 20, Malith Ratnayake 3 for 41, Jayavi Liyanagama 2 for 15, S. Anurajeewa 2 for 33)

Trinity boxers impress

Trinity College boxers did well to take the third place in the inter-school L.V. Jayaweera meet that took place at St. Sylvester’s College junior school hall with over 450 boxers from 98 schools contesting.

In the last meet held in 2019 Trinity College took second place and this time seven boxers from Trinity were in the ring. Six of their boxers were able to enter the quarter finals and out of them three boxers reached the semi-finals.

They bagged three Gold medals and a Bronze medal. The Gold medals were won by Sooriyabandara (50– 52Kg), Ronal Weerasekara (39 – 41Kg) and Salman Faris (46 – 48Kg) while the Bronze medal was won by Parakrama.

The Preliminary round winners were Zenel Zakeer (35 – 37Kg), Nethul Hulangamuwa (48 – 50kg), Hirun Kularathne (54 – 56Kg) and Malindu Bandara (60– 63.5Kg)

Kingswood host S. Thomas’ at rugby

Kingwood College will host S. Thomas’ College on Sunday in their inter-school league rugby match at Nittawela.

Kingswood College is not in the best of form this year and were beaten by Royal College, Trinity College and St. Anthony’s College. S. Thomas College with a talented side went down to Trinity, Royal and St. Joseph’s and beat St. Anthony’s College.
