Vidyartha stretch Isipathana before going down 23-25

Isipathana lived up to their reputation of coming back into the fight and managed to register a narrow win by 25 points (3 tries, 2 conversions, 2 penalties) to 23 (2 tries, 2 conversions, 3 penalties) over a determined Vidyartha in their Dialog schools rugby encounter played at Nittawela on Friday.

Isipathana began the scoring with a penalty put over by Boteju in the third minute.

Thereafter, it was Vidyartha who did the scoring through a try by Karunaratne that was converted by Menuka Tillakaratne.

Vidyartha scored again through a penalty put over by Tillakaratne who was very accurate with his kicks at goal. He was successful with another penalty kick and gave Vidyartha a 13-3 lead at that point.

Isipathana came back through some successful mauls and piercing the tight defence put up by Vidyartha. They earned another penalty and Boteju was also successful with his accurate kicking putting over the penalty.

Isipathana once again used their forwards to good effect and scored a try in the 32 minute. They took a short tap for a penalty and number eight Wickremarachchi barged over. Boteju was successful with the conversion and the scores were level at13-13.

With a few minutes left for the short whistle, Vidyartha earned a penalty and Tillekaratne kicked right to take the lead 16-13 at half time.

Soon after the turn around Vidyartha went further ahead through a try and conversion that gave them a ten point lead, 23-13.

Isipathana kept mounting the pressure on Vidyartha with their back division working the ball around frequently.

They scored a try through fly half Kavishka and Boteju converted once again. They scored again through a three-quarter move that saw Vewala Panditha going over far right. Boteju failed to covert this try but Isipathana took a two point lead until full time.
