Defaulting EPF contributions - red notices for 1,700 employers

18 September, 2022

Nearly 1,700 employers have been issued with red notices for not paying the EPF contributions of their employees last year, Commissioner General of Labour, Prabath Chandrakeerthi said.

About 8,700 institutions have been issued with notices for not paying the EPF funds of their employees, he told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

He said about 769 cases had been filed against employers who had violated the EPF Act by the non- payment of EPF funds to employees last year.

Of those cases, about 338 were settled benefitting the employees.

About 9,000 cases on EPF payment defaults are now being heard at Magistrate’s Courts countrywide, he said.

The newly amended EPF Act has helped employees to get their EPF issues resolved expeditiously, he added.
