New sports Plan proposed

18 September, 2022

The Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Roshan Ranasinghe forwarded the newly formed future plan to develop sports in the country at a function held at the Sports Ministry Auditorium on Thursday.

For this the Minister of Education Susil Premjayanth, all Provincial Governors, Commanders of three Armed Forces and heads of sports governing bodies too were invited to attend. At this function the new plan was officially handed to the Education Minister and Provincial Council Governors by the Minister himself.

The Minister addressing the gathering said the Plan was prepared by him with the hope of promoting sports in the country and was formulated after consulting 14 former Sports Ministers and the National Sports Council headed by World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga.

“Sport is not the only thing that comes under my purview. The Youth Affairs too comes along with our Ministry. As such the Ministry is bound to consider the difficulties faced by them.

“The young children gain much during their school career from the age 13 years onwards. These school children have to be guided well to take to sporting activities at the young age. This is sure to keep them in good health while they come out with their talents from which the officials and sports instructors can select them according to their skills to train them.

“Once this is done children take a keen interest to carry on with the sport for which they are been selected. To activate this system school heads of all schools in the country should take the initial steps,” said Sports Minister Ranasinghe.
