The “Leaders for the 21st Century” is a pioneering leadership training program launched by the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS).

The focus of this program is to create awareness and help foster integral pre-requisites for credible leadership such as honesty, commitment, efficiency among the participants.

The BCIS Youth Leadership Academy was established as a CSR Project of the BMICH with the prime objective of training young people to become responsible and effective leaders. This is a six-month nonresidential training program which comprises two modules.

The first module is aimed at providing youth the soft skills needed to become solution oriented, innovative and resilient young leaders in their workplace, community and wider society. The second module provides the participants insights on the concept of transformational leadership through class room lectures, documentary screening, field visits and outdoor activities.

The awards ceremony of the first batch of participants who successfully completed the Leaders for the 21st Century course offered by the Youth Leadership Academy of the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) was held at the Olympus Auditorium of the BCIS on September 17, 2022.

The Chairperson of the BCIS, former President Madam Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga graced the occasion as the chief guest. The students were given the opportunity to engage in an interactive session with the Chairperson about critical issues confronting the youth of the country today. A presentation was done by the executive committee members of the first Alumni Association of the BCIS Youth Leaders Academy on their future goals and targets. Thereafter, the Chairperson distributed the awards for the participants who successfully completed the above course.

The second batch of participants of the Leaders for the 21st Century course will commence their course in the second half of November 2022.
