Promising karate exponents show their colours

The ISK team from the RJ Edward Karate School excelled at the Open Karate Championship held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium winning a total of 12 medals, including four golds.

The event was the first of selection rounds for the upcoming South Asian karate championship 2022 to be held in Sri Lanka.

The ISK team was guided and coached by Asian Games and South Asian Games medallist and national coach RJ Edward who could probably be recognized as the coach behind most of the medallists in the tournament.

The team secured three silver medals and five bronze medals.

The medal winners were Edward Brion (U-21 Male Individual Kata L-5 gold), TLS Prabhashini (Level 5 44kg gold), HMLV Amunugama (Senior Female Individual Kata silver), BDN Shamindi Kumarasiri (Level 4 40kg silver), Edward Britney (Leesha Level 4 58kg silver), PG Dinuwara Randil (Senior Male Individual Kata bronze), U Branav (Level 4 59kg bronze), HML Amunugama (L5- 55kg bronze) and IH Bripasha Vihangi (Level 4 69 kg bronze)

Their senior team comprising PG Dinuwara Randil, PG Ven Hadithsith and Edward Brion also won the Kata bronze.
