Sarath Wimalasinghe: Oustanding play-maker and shrewd leader

2 October, 2022

An outstanding centre half, playmaker and shrewd leader, Sarath Wimalasinghe was the vice captain at the 1978 Asian Games and captain at the first Asia Cup in 1982.

His remarkable performance at the National Championships was unique.

Making his debut for Matale HA in 1975, he led the team that emerged runners up playing for Mercantile HA from 1980 to 1984. He played in the winning teams of 1980 to 1982, captaining in 1982. Back again in Matale, he played in the 1985 team that was runners up and winning teams from 1986 to 1988 and joint champions in 1991. What a performer.
