Batting coach Nawaz rues disappointing collapse

27 November, 2022

Sri Lanka will meet Afghanistan today in the second ODI match at the Pallekele Stadium after losing the first game by 60 runs.

Sri Lanka batting coach Naveed Nawaz said that although his team was able to keep Afghanistan to less than 300 (294) in the first game, the top order batting failed to give them a good start.

“We had two best players as openers in Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka but unfortunately Mendis was out cheaply while Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka could not contribute.

“However young Pathum Nissanka and bowling all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga fought back strongly. We have no excuses for losing and we need to come back in the next two games,” said Nawaz.

Nawaz paid a tribute to Nissanka calling him an exceptional cricketer. “He is a dedicated player and has good techniques. He can go a long way,” said Nawaz.
