City of Colombo

8 January, 2023

Colombo was known to traders 2,000 years ago. It was made the capital of the island when Sri Lanka was ceded to the British Empire in 1815. The city was designated as the commercial capital of Sri Lanka.

The main city is home to the majority of Sri Lanka’s corporate offices, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Landmarks in Colombo include the Galle Face Green, Viharamaha-devi Park, Beira Lake, the Racecourse, the Planetarium, the University of Colombo, Nelum Pokuna Theatre, One Galle Face, Gangaramaya Temple, the Dutch Museum, the Lotus Tower and the National Museum.

I like its stunning architecture. To me visiting Colombo is getting away from it all.
