A tribute to Tamil Cine greats

8 January, 2023

Sangeetha Megham - an evening of Tamil Cine music directed by Soundarie David Rodrigo and featuring local talent, will be staged as a Special Pongal Edition at the Bishops College Auditorium in Colombo on January 15.

Sangeetha Megham was held for the first time at the Elphinston Theatre in June last year. It was a success as the show was after turbulent times in Sri Lanka due to the Coronavirus lockdown as well as the economic crisis.

This concert was well received and was a great success with raving reviews in the media. Extracts of the show – now out to the pubic via youtube have been viewed by international audiences with reviews and feedback.

By popular demand and based on the fact that many missed the first show, a repeat will include a few changes and additions.

The band “Maya” comprising Visharada Ratnam Ratnadurai, Pradeep Rodrigo, Shane John, Dhanuksha Seneviratne, Chandru Rajasooriyar and Soundarie David Rodrigo – all experienced and talented musicians will provide backing to the great line up of singers, featuring the star from “The Voice” – young Tamil singer Prakash K and Tanuja Joseph - guest star from Melbourne, Australia- along with singers Megan Shatrughan, Amaan Rifai and Abinesh Ravichandran.

Soundarie said, “The presenters of this unique Tamil Musical Show – Sangeetha Megham 2.0–given the success of the first show, not just in terms of how it was received but also the process of putting together these challenging songs of Great Tamil Cine Music Composers – was so great, and working towards this and mastering the nuances of these great melodies was truly an experience to cherish. We felt there were more Tamil Cine Music lovers out there who missed the show, and those who wanted to watch it all over again. This one is especially for all of them.”

Some soul-stirring hits from the 80’s and 90’s of the composers Ilaiyaraja and A.R. Rahman as well as some new hits of the other music directors of the Tamil cine industry are set to be performed.
